Shoulder Labral Tear Treatment

Shoulder Labral Tear Treatment

What's the Best Option for You?

Labral tears are the most common source of shoulder pain, affecting up to 3 percent of the population. The good news is labral tears can usually be treated successfully and don’t typically lead to long-term damage. Physical therapy can help you get back on track in your daily life.

What is a Shoulder Labral Tear?

A labrum is a ring of cartilage running around the edge of your shoulder socket. It adds depth and strength to that joint while also protecting your biceps tendon and rotator cuff tendons.

A labral tear is a common injury that occurs when you fall on an outstretched arm or are involved in another sudden impact. In most cases, these tears heal on their own without any treatment. If you have tried physical therapy from a highly trained team like the one at Pinnacle PT and you are still having persistent pain, it may be best to talk with your doctor about other treatment options.

What Are The Symptoms of a Shoulder Labral Tear?

The main symptom of a shoulder labral tear is trouble lifting your arm. The pain will often get worse when you lift something heavy with your arm, such as carrying groceries or moving furniture.

If you have a labral tear in your shoulder, there’s an excellent chance you also have rotator cuff tendinitis, which means you’ll likely feel pain at night and when trying to sleep on your shoulder.
